Leonia High School Music Department Music Trip Concert – FREE

Enjoy a great night out at this FREE concert preview of what LHS will be performing in this year’s Worldstrides Heritage National Competition in Washington DC the end of April.

The Choir, Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra will perform pieces including: Benny Goodman’s Sing, Sing, Sing; I’m Goin’ Up A Yonder, spiritual by Walter Hawkins, Omara Morales-soloist; Te Quiero (Argentinia) by Alberto Favero; The Longest Time, Billy Joel, Leor Cohen, soloist.

For the first time the chorus class will be combined with all of the singers from the Men’s and Women’s choirs, over 90 singers! Their selections include: Kyrie from Mass in C by Ludwig van Beethoven; Take me to the Water, a medley of Spirituals arranged by Rollo Dillworth.

All choirs will be accompanied at the piano by our talented student pianists; Alex Yedidia, Samuel Wilson, Ellen Kim and Isabella Bonapace. Many are seniors and this will be their second to last concert at the high school.

This concert is FREE and open to the public. Please come and support these talented students.

Every year the Leonia High School Band, Choir & Orchestra compete in the Worldstrides National Music Festival Competition. This year they will be competing in Philadelphia, PA. April 25-28, 2019. In 2018 the Leonia High School band, chorus and orchestra won six of the twelve solo Maestro Awards from a field of over 1,000 musicians! Additional awards included Gold medal standing for the Orchestra and Concert Band as well as the Chamber, Concert Men’s’ and Women’s’ Choir. Silver medals were awarded to the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.
Leonia Makes Music, a non-profit organization supports the LHS Music Department and student participation in this yearly competition.
