In 2024, Sculpture for Leonia installed 11 new sculptures around town.

Norman Sas installed Aeolus, the Greek god of wind, a kinetic sculpture which dances in the breeze, in front of the Senior Center. At Station Parkway, eight new sculptures were installed by members of 14 Sculptors, Inc. in a show called “OH SIT”. These pieces contemplate the chair or the concept of “sit”. We are fortunate to be collaborating with this group of sculptors again.

Two of the sculptures are by Leonia artists Gil Hawkins and Mary Martire. Gil’s Luther Hill 2 abstracted sculpture adorns the front corner of the new Municipal Building and Mary’s Firefly bug sculpture hangs from a tree in the Sculpture Garden and has lights which twinkle in the dark.

The participating artists are Noel Caban, Allan Cyprys, Esther A. Grillo, Mary Rieser Heintjes, Siena Gillann Porta, Carl Rattner, Herb Rosenberg and Chuck von Schmidt.

We are proud of the variety of styles and materials in these new pieces and encourage Leonia residents to be Sculpture Scouts. Find the sculptures and let us know on our website which is your favorite.

Sculpture for Leonia is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization established in 2008 with the purpose of enhancing the historically rich art and cultural environment in Leonia through the display of outdoor sculpture. The exhibition is centered in The Erika & David Boyd Sculpture Garden, located at Broad Avenue and Beechwood Place in Leonia, New Jersey, with other locations throughout the town and showcases more than 50 sculptures by artists who provide their pieces on loan for the enrichment of the community.
