- 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
- Players Guild of Leonia, Drill Hall Theater, 130 Grand Avenue, Leonia
Dr. Emma Brookner – polio victim, Age 30s+ (Can be older). Tough. Caring. Angry at the establishment – medical and governmental. She refers to herself as the ‘holy terror in the wheelchair’. She’s treating victims of what is a new disease and sees the future, that many will die. Would like to cast this with an actor who uses a motorized wheelchair, though not required. Theater is accessible.
Tommy Boatwright – Southern. Late 20s. Both sweet and a little bit sarcastic. Witty. Diplomatic. Refers to himself as a southern bitch. Tommy has a big heart; he cares for people – not just those he knows, but those he does not. Would like to cast this role with a black actor.
Mickey Marcus – works for NYC Health Department. Age 30s-50s. The character who suffers the most emotionally… we see him at the brink. His suffering and fear almost lead him to suicide. Like others in the story, he lives in a straight world but he is burdened more than others by living in two worlds. Fought long and hard for gay rights and is frightened – one could say terrified – by the growing crisis. Script makes clear, short of stature.
