NYC provides riches of light, shadow, angles and characters. For 50 years, Dennis Chalkin has been capturing these fortuitous collisions of happenstance. Through his discerning lens, Chalkin has recorded countless stunning slices of time. While his advertising work has been consumed broadly on the covers of mainstream magazines and via national media campaigns, Chalkin’s real jewel is his unique and poignant body of artwork: a gritty, seasoned point of view, and an often-humorous commentary on the coincidental, the strong-willed and the too-often invisible minor miracles that comprise our city. For the first time, Chalkin comes home to his native Brooklyn, artworks in tow, to return to the public what it’s been exposing to his camera for so long.
