Doris Friedensohn writes about ethnic foodways, innovative teaching, world travel and multicultural encounters in Metro NY/NJ. A retired Professor of Women’s Studies, she has co-curated several traveling exhibits on women’s lives, most notably “Past and Promise: Lives of New Jersey Women” with Barbara Rubin. She and her late husband, the painter Elias Friedensohn, settled in Leonia 50 years ago. Her food memoir, Eating as I Go: Scenes from America and Abroad, University Press of Kentucky, (2006), closes with a wry appreciation of Leonia’s own Happy Market.
