Photographer/Oboist
Matt Dine is equally at home with an oboe or a camera.  Co-principal oboist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Principal oboist of American Ballet Theatre, New York-based Dine leads a varied and busy performing life while serving as a freelance culture photographer for The New York Times and remaining in high demand for his portraiture and arts publicity work. He can also be found behind the scenes at many of New York City’s most important concerts and events. Adept at covering intimate gatherings, he has a particular interest in family events & portraiture photography.

More than a photographer, Matt is a social artist, uniquely skilled at catching people at their best. His style is subtle and permission-based, whether it is capturing images of Sir Simon Rattle, Michael Finn, Amy Chua, Lucas Samaras, Lynn Harrel, Chris Thile, Gil Shaham, Robert Kennedy, JR., and other artists and personalities.

A lifelong amateur photographer, Matt only began his professional photo career in 2010 when a neck injury constricted his performing schedule.  His intimate knowledge of the music world has enabled him to shoot from a unique perspective – as a result much of his work is shot while performing.  His first exhibition in 2010, “Fifty-One Faces”, was followed shortly by the 2011 release of his documentary film DELMAR, an intimate look inside the world of an oboist with Asperger’s Syndrome. DELMAR was screened at the 2012 Charlotte Film Festival.

Few photographers combine Matt’s technical proficiency with his artistic and creative abilities, not to mention a uniquely disarming persona. He is trusted to maintain the privacy of his clients and has shot in some of the most elite venues and exclusive private residences in New York City, Palm Beach, the Hamptons, and Hollywood.
